"Online assessor" job text scam
Unsolicited texts offer easy remote work for unrealistic pay, then move you to WhatsApp or Telegram, where you are eventually asked to pay to "unlock" earnings.
How this scam works
The easy-work pitch moves an unexpected contact into a private chat. The displayed earnings can look real, but the next step is a payment to unlock or withdraw money that was never earned.
Common versions of the message
- A resume you never submitted
- Hundreds of dollars for an hour of work
- A move to WhatsApp or Telegram

Hi, I'm Emily, a recruiter. Your resume was recommended for a remote online assessor job. Work 60 minutes a day and earn $300-$800 daily. Contact me on WhatsApp to get started.
Fictional example based on common, publicly reported scam patterns.
The red flags
- 1
You never applied: “Your resume was recommended”
Real recruiters reference a job you applied for
A recruiter cannot explain where a recommended resume came from when you never applied for the job.
- 2
Too good to be true: “earn $300-$800 daily”
No real job pays this for an hour a day
The daily pay is far out of proportion to the hour of work and is used to pull you past normal hiring questions.
- 3
Leave the app: “Contact me on WhatsApp”
Moving to WhatsApp hides who they are
Moving to WhatsApp hides the conversation from a job platform and makes the sender harder to verify.
What to do
- Ignore job offers for jobs you never applied to.
- Never pay to start a job or withdraw earnings.
- Do not move the conversation to WhatsApp or Telegram.
If you already replied, clicked, or paid
- If you moved to another app, stop responding and save the job text and chat history.
- If you paid to unlock work or earnings, contact the payment provider and your bank immediately.
- If you sent identity documents, take the identity-protection steps recommended by the organization that issued them.
