Netflix "payment declined" text scam
These texts copy Netflix branding and link to a fake login and payment page. Netflix shows billing problems inside the app.
How this scam works
The threat of losing access gets you to open a branded look-alike page. That page asks for the Netflix login and payment details the sender wants to collect.
Common versions of the message
- A declined-payment notice
- A same-day suspension warning
- A billing-update link
What the message looks like
Text from +1 (555) 019-3321
Netflix: Your payment was declined and your membership will be suspended today. Update your billing details now to keep watching: https://netflix-billing-update.top/account
Fictional example based on common, publicly reported scam patterns.
The red flags
- 1
Billing problem by text: “payment was declined”
Netflix shows billing issues in the app, not by text
A billing warning by text bypasses the place where Netflix actually shows account problems: inside the app.
- 2
Rushed deadline: “suspended today”
Rushing you so you don't check the app
The same-day deadline makes typing payment details feel faster than checking the app yourself.
- 3
Not Netflix: “netflix-billing-update.top”
Real Netflix links end in netflix.com
The example address contains Netflix words but ends in .top instead of netflix.com.
What to do
- Do not tap the link.
- Open the Netflix app or type netflix.com yourself to check your account.
- Forward the text to 7726 (SPAM) and delete it.
If you already replied, clicked, or paid
- If you entered your Netflix password, change it through the app or netflix.com and change it anywhere else you reused it.
- If you entered card details, call the number on your card immediately.
- Review your Netflix account for changes after securing the password.
