Hotel booking "reconfirm your card" scam

After booking a trip, you get a message that looks like it comes from the hotel or booking site, saying your card failed and your reservation will be cancelled unless you reconfirm it through a link.

How this scam works

The scammer knows you have a real booking, which makes the message believable. The link steals your card details.

Common versions of the message

  • A reservation about to be cancelled
  • A card that "could not be verified"
  • A link to reconfirm your card

What the message looks like

Text from Hotel Reception (Booking message)

Dear guest, your reservation will be cancelled within 12 hours because your card could not be verified. Please reconfirm your card details at this link to keep your booking: http://booking-guest-verify.top/confirm

Fictional example based on common, publicly reported scam patterns.

The red flags

  1. 1

  2. 2

Asks for your card: “reconfirm your card details”

This is how they take your money

Reconfirming your card through a link is how they take your money.

  3. 3

    Fake site: “booking-guest-verify.top”

Check your booking in the real app instead

Check your booking in the real app instead.

What to do

  • Do not tap the link.
  • Open the booking app or site yourself and check your reservation.
  • Call the hotel using the number on its official website.

If you already replied, clicked, or paid

  • If you entered card details, call the number on your card right away.
  • Report the message to the booking site.
  • Watch your statement for charges you do not recognize.
